Become a firefighter

State of Missouri average Firefighter salary:$44,165

Projected 10 year growth: 5%

Hours:
Most firefighters work long shifts, weekends, and holidays. Shift lengths vary with different agencies. Shifts can be 24 hours on with 48 hours off, 48 hours on with 96 hours off, or 12 hour shifts 3 or 4 days a week.

Required Education:
Hazmat Awareness & Operation
Firefighter I & II
EMT or Paramedic

Volunteering Opportunities:
Volunteering can be a great way to gain experience and possibly lead to a career, as many agencies prefer to hire from their part time staff and volunteers. Many of the Jefferson County fire agencies accept volunteers. Reach out to your local fire agency for more information on volunteering.
